DOC20 is an initiative of socially-involved entrepreneurs and organizations that have committed themselves to coaching young people into making choices from the heart. DOC20 mentors young people on how to turn their dreams and passions into concrete initiatives. DOC20 aspires to work with organizations, companies and (educational) institutions that work with young people and want to embed its approach in the education curriculum.

Vision

Young people grow up in an exciting time. A time in which they have a choice between self-denial and self-expression. In the former, life happens to them; the world for them is overwhelming, competitive, masculine, polluting and wasteful. There is pressure on all sides of the young’s life: school, parents, consumer society and friends—all want them to satisfy their expectations. Furthermore, there are social and religious morals and an ideal of beauty and success which they must satisfy. The possibilities are enormous, but youngsters have hardly learned to contemplate these choices from the heart. When they learn to do so, their way will become free for true self-expression.

Methodology

DOC20 is designing initiatives with partners and businesses around concrete questions or needs, whereby youngsters are invited by means of cooperation partners, networks, universities, colleges and individual applications. The process aims at offering professional facilitation, innovative working methods and safe spaces; the result is that participants can be open and vulnerable and make contact with their heart and deeper drives, thereby becoming responsible for their lives.

The DOC20 methodology is based on Otto Scharmer’s transformation methodology Theory U, which aims to shape the future based on the now as opposed to merely learning from past experiences. Scharmer calls it presensing the future, a combination of the words: ‘presence’ and ‘sensing’. The main point is that everyone has a blind spot—the deepest passion disguised in dogmas, assumptions, social and educational systems, fears. The DOC20 programme aims at discovering this blind spot to allow new ideas and initiatives to develop. See also: www.Ottoscharmer.com
